I have a 1953A $2 US bill & was told that the bill is obsolete & collectable. Is it useable or not as money?

The older bills have 'United States Note' on them and the current bills have 'Federal Reserve Note' on them. Does this mean it is only good for a currency collection? I am not from the US so I don't know the answer.
