Why was Lady Jane Grey, as opposed to her mother, installed as Queen of England after the death of Edward VI?

I think Lady Jane's mother just denounced the throne I don't remember why. I think it was some sort of plot. I could be wrong so if this is for a report I wouldn't use the information without looking into it first
