What happened to Family Guy?

It's such a shame. Family Guy used to be the funniest and most clever show on television during its first run and right after it came back. Since then, although there have been some really funny episodes ("The Tan Aquatic With Steve Zissou"; "Stewie Kills Lois"), the show seems to be on a decline. It just isn't as funny anymore. And I don't know why.
